Language: Spanish is an important language that is derived from the Latin roots as well as Portuguese, French, Italian and more. Spanish is a Romance language that originated in Castille Spain and spread throughout the country. According to the Spanish history, the vocabulary was influenced by the contact of other native languages in Spain such as the Basques languages and Arabian words (which were the first languages that were spoken in Spain other than Latin). The Spanish language was brought when they conquered America. The Spanish conquistadors brought their cultures, traditions and primary their languages; in which Spanish was their official language.
Purpose and Benefit: The main purpose of the conquistadors traveling to America was to take over the land; however, to their surprise the land was already taken over by the natives. Their next plan was to control the natives by “educating” them and introducing religion; thus, along with it they brought their language. Successfully, the Spanish forces were able to influence the natives and made the religion and language official. Due to several battles that the Spanish forces faced against the natives; resulted on the killing of thousands of natives because they did not have the resources such as fire arms to fight back and defend themselves. The Spanish took advantage of their power and were able to defeat the natives. These resulted on the creation of the “haciendas” which are mines or factories to enrich the Spanish monarchy. The leaders of the monarchies were called “haciendados” in which their main duty was to send gold and treasures back to Spain. America lost their own freedom and power to the Spanish.
Spanish Speaking Countries: Spanish is one of the six official languages in the United Nations. Today there are 21 countries in which Spanish is their official language (refer to the picture above; there is a demonstration of the Spanish speaking countries). Spanish is an important language in the United States because is the second most spoken language. The reason is because people from Spanish speaking countries (mainly Mexico, Central and South America) migrate to the United States.
